|A MAGNIFICENT BENEDICTINE MONASTRY SITUATED ON THE GREEN COAST OF PORTUGAL.
The Quinta de Cabanas is a Benedictine Monastery (Monastery of S. João Baptista de Cabanas) with origins dating back to the XIIth century. The Monastery was completely restored in 1720, giving it its architectural characteristics that remain to this day.
As it passed through the hands of various owners, from members of the Portuguese aristocracy, to a renowned Portuguese poet and to diplomats (the current owners), the monastery was subject to various changes and repairs, the latest one focusing on adapting the monastery to the needs of a modern and comfortable lifestyle.
Quinta de Cabanas is located on the edge of Afife, near the coast north of Viana do Castelo.
Route N13, which runs the length of the coast from Viano do Castelo to the south and the Spanish border to the north, is within easy reach. Oporto Airport is 49 miles / 79km away and Vigo Airport (in Spain) is 46 miles / 74km away.
